Breakfast Club Dancing Scene

For our first project, me, Sarina, and Katelyn are working on recreating the dancing scene from The Breakfast Club. We started filming on October 25, after a lot of pre-production. The idea started as a complete recreation of the entire scene, but we had to cut it down due to time constraints. Our original idea of completely recreating the scene also became a little bit less straightforward. We kept shots that we liked, and discarded the ones that would be too hard to film or too time consuming. We also came up with the idea of filming certain scenes in all seasons. There are two scenes in particular where we are going to film them in multiple different conditions of weather and splice them together, the scene where Allison and John are dancing on the bookcase and the scene where John, Andrew, and Brian are dancing together. We will film these two scenes in multiple different locations and the final film will feature shots from all the locations. Our pre-production involves a shot list, a scene list, and a list of actors, as well as the original video to act as a comparison (below).

As well as being a "director" I also acted in our Breakfast Club recreation. I played the part of Brian. While my only part was to dance and throw a couple things, it was my first time acting in front of a camera, aside from the interviews we did at the beginning of the year, and this was very exciting for me. My part is the only part we have filmed as of yet. Luckily, a lot of the scenes we want to film don't require more than one actor, so we have been picking times to film depending on availability. The characters of The Breakfast Club are built on archetypes. The character I play, Brian, is the awkward nerd. Will Fox plays Andrew Clark, the athlete, Gwen Kekic plays Allison Reynolds, the "basket-case," Cece Kersten plays Claire Standish, the princess, and Graham Bowen plays John Bender, the criminal. The scenes we are filming never require more than three actors, the biggest being the scene where Brian (me), Andrew (Will), and John (Graham), are dancing on the table, and that a is one of the scenes where we are going to film in multiple locations.

We filmed my scenes on October 25th. When we uploaded the footage to a computer, we added the appropriate music that will serve as the only sound in our video. We put the footage that we put over that, in the appropriate spots. As we film more scenes, we will add our clips to our already existing project. The music is cut to the right time, trimmed down to a minute, and we will add more clips over it. Our Breakfast Club recreation is my first film without any constraints or guidelines, and it is also my first time acting in a film.
